From the time I was 11 years old, I
sought meaning and purpose, truth and understanding. I began to
ask two essential questions: Who am I? and How shall
I live? I followed these questions around the world, always
hungry for that final aha! when it would all make sense.
My adventures were marked by many defining moments of truth.
Altogether, these moments have expanded my awareness and understanding
of the magical possibilities in life. I share what I've learned
on this journey in my various keynote talks and programs, with
people from all walks of life — from corporate executives to rock
musicians, from best-selling authors to ministers of parliament.
My philosophy, which supports and shapes my work, has been developed
from many years of study, practical application, and personal
experience. I believe that every person has unlimited access to
an intrinsic reservoir of wisdom and shakti, a tsunami
of creative and expressive power, that we can use to live impossibly
remarkable lives. The essence of my approach is to draw forth
the natural wisdom, energy, and enthusiasm from people, individually
and collectively. I have firm faith in the capacity of people
to generate wise and effective insights and strategies for themselves
and their families and companies and communities.
The most useful tools and techniques are already within each
of us, and they are more potent than theoretical templates or
mechanical models. They are: a clear mind, an open heart, and
present-centered attention.
Because we have so much richness already existing within us,
my style of speaking and my method of working with people is somewhat
freewheeling. I don't use the word "training," so popular
in business today, because I never liked it when someone tried
to train me. I prefer to ignite people, to call out their desire
and capacity for bigness and boldness. Rather than set pieces,
I favor spontaneity and improvisation, creativity and intuition.
I like to examine limiting assumptions and beliefs. I encourage
people to define their values and articulate goals that are personally
meaningful. I talk about the power of choice, and the importance
of focused attention. I do think we all ought to develop whatever
skills we need to do our work well. I love when people do great
work, beautiful work, from the heart.
I have traveled, studied, lived, and worked throughout the world.
I have met many people. We are the same in basic ways. We aspire
to an authentic, vibrant life. We want to express ourselves truthfully
and fearlessly, to relate with intimacy and vulnerability, to
fulfill our sense of purpose, to choose our work and do it well.
We want a meaningful life of inspiration and joy, and we all want
to give our love to the world. To realize these feelings and experiences
is not difficult. It is actually quite simple. We just have to
ignite our natural powers of wisdom and shakti, of insight and
action.
