Radical Sages

2005 - 2006

Truth For President.org was my entrée and initiation into what some people call “engaged spirituality” or “spiritual activism.” Through that project, I realized that I had to create a new context for spiritual, meditative life, one that kept our feet firmly on the ground. I had succumbed to the exoticism of Eastern meditative traditions, and fallen in love with transcendence. Naughty boy! I had lost the whole plot before even finding it!

You can go straight to “Genesis of Radical Sages,” below, to get an idea of what I was up to. Basically, I had envisioned Radical Sages, the web site, as an on-line hub of global spiritual activism. I launched the site in March 2005. I was going to expand the work I had begun in 2004, with articles by spiritual leaders, independent media stories of current events, action alerts, field reports from Radical Sages, etc. I began offering Radical Sages workshops and lectures — seeking to politicize the “spiritual” set.

I came to Australia in July 2005 to give some talks. Something happened. I went back to San Francisco and couldn’t really pick up the thread of that life. I moved to Australia three months later, in October of 2005. I’ve lived here since then, moving in new ways, creating different brands and projects — but with the same spirit and heart of Radical Sages.
